Glutenvrije Snickers

In the trend of gluten-free Oreo cookies and sugar-free Bounty’s and Lions, I was recently looking again for a guilt-free indulgence recipe. Earlier I had come across the chocolate-peanut bars from a fellow blogger and they looked so good! So when it poured last weekend, I dove into the kitchen to try out this recipe for gluten-free Snickers!

Gluten-free Snickers recipe

    How to make Snickers?

    1. Roast the peanuts in a pan, shaking them regularly. Then roughly chop them in a food processor and add a generous pinch of (coarse sea) salt.
    2. Warm and mix the coconut oil and honey, then add the peanuts to it (or vice versa).
    3. Line a baking tin with parchment paper. Spread the peanut mixture over the tin and press down firmly. Let chill in the fridge for about 45–60 minutes.
    4. Then melt the chocolate au bain-marie and pour it over the peanut mixture.
    5. Let set in the fridge (or freezer); for me this took just over 1 hour. Tip: Store the bars in an airtight container in the fridge and take them with you to work!

Aaaah and they're just like real Snickers! My father and mother were allowed to try a piece too and they did say they could taste that there was no caramel in it (huh, is there caramel in Snickers, I don't remember?). But in terms of flavour it made them think a lot of Snickers. Experiment successful! Because for me, someone who hasn't eaten a Snickers in 1.5 years (actually longer), it tastes heavenly and even much better than a Snickers.

By the way, this recipe does contain honey. You can also use agave syrup, but in terms of effect on blood sugar it doesn't make much difference. I rarely use honey, preferring coconut blossom sugar and even more preferably fruit to sweeten, but sometimes a recipe calls for a sticky sweetener. And if you really want to treat yourself and eat a bit more consciously and purely, you can reach for these Snickers from now on!
