Imagine a deep, earthy aroma wafting through your home as lamb and spices simmer gently for hours. No rushing, no dry meat, no fuss - just a dish that cooks itself. That's the magic of cooking with a tagine, and with the Emile Henry Tagine Flame in Terracotta, you can bring that magic home. Made in Burgundy, designed for generations.
Why You’ll Never Want to Miss This Dish
A tagine is not just a pot. It’s a method, a ritual, a promise. The high, conical lid is not a random shape - it’s a clever technique that has worked for centuries. Steam rises, condenses on the inside of the lid, and drips back onto the meat or vegetables. Over and over again. This keeps everything juicy, fragrant, and incredibly tender - without you having to do anything.
- Slow cooking, always tender - The conical lid continuously circulates steam back onto the dish, ensuring meat and vegetables cook from the inside out.
- From kitchen to table in one step - The tagine looks so beautiful that you can simply place it on the table - serving and presenting in one.
- Versatile - Use the dish separately as an oven dish.
- Compatible with almost any hob - Gas, electric, halogen, and ceramic: the Emile Henry works everywhere.
- Simply dishwasher safe - Enjoy without fearing the washing up.
- 10-year guarantee - Emile Henry stands for quality that lasts for decades.
Flame® Ceramic: Made for Fire
Emile Henry doesn’t just make their Flame® ceramic. This specialised material is designed to stand directly on a flame - something regular ceramic would never survive. The dish heats evenly and retains heat for a long time, which is exactly what you want for slow cooking. No hotspots, no cracks, no surprises. Just a dish that has time to develop its flavours.
The Flame® ceramic is free from lead, cadmium, and nickel - substances you definitely don’t want in your food. The glazed finish ensures that flavours are not absorbed into the material, so your tagine tastes just as neutral after ten years as it did on day one. A cookware that grows with you and doesn’t waste any of your culinary adventures.
Handmade in Burgundy - No Factory Work
Every Emile Henry tagine is handmade in Marcigny, Burgundy. For over 160 years, this has been the craft of this French family business. You may not taste the difference immediately, but you can feel it - in the weight, the balance, the way the lid fits perfectly. This is not a disposable item. This is something you pass down.
The terracotta colour is not just a colour. It’s a nod to the ancient Moroccan pottery traditions, combined with modern material design that you can use on any hob. This combination of tradition and functionality is exactly what Emile Henry has excelled at for generations.
Practical as Life Itself
With a diameter of 32.5 cm (inner diameter 28.5 cm) and a capacity of 2.5 litres, this tagine is spacious enough for a cosy dinner for four. No tiny portions, but a generous dish that you can place in the middle of the table for everyone to share. Because that’s what dining is about: being together, tasting together, enjoying together.
After dinner, you won’t have to sigh at the washing up. The Emile Henry tagine is simply dishwasher safe - pop it in and sit down for dessert. It’s also microwave safe, so any leftovers can be easily reheated the next day. Want to use it on induction? That’s possible with an induction adapter disc.
💡 Tip: Always start your tagine cold on the heat and let it warm up slowly. If you place it on a hot burner, you give the ceramic an unnecessarily large temperature shock. Low heat, plenty of time - that’s the secret to a perfect tagine. Also, add a splash of olive oil and a layer of onions at the bottom before placing the meat on top: this builds a flavour base that carries the whole dish.
