What does our expert say?

Wine Specialist

Good wine glasses deserve good care, and this product really helps with that. After washing there are often water spots or limescale residues left that make your glass look dull, and that's exactly where this Riedel microfiber cloth solves the problem. I always use it dry for the best shine, and the difference with an ordinary tea towel is immediately noticeable. Riedel developed this for their own glassware, so you know the quality is right and that you won't risk scratches or lint on your most beautiful glasses. Washing at 90°C is fine, but skip the fabric softener because it damages the microfiber.

FAQ

Can I use the Riedel poleerdoek wet, or only dry?
Both work fine. Use the cloth dry for a quick shine after drying, or lightly dampened for more stubborn limescale or grease. The microfibers pick up stains and limescale effectively in both cases without leaving scratches or lint on your glassware.
How do I wash the polishing cloth after use?
Washing is simple: the cloth can go in the washing machine at up to 90°C. Just watch out for one thing: do not use fabric softener. Fabric softener damages the microfiber structure, which makes the cloth less effective at polishing. Without fabric softener it will continue to perform optimally.
Is this cloth suitable for all my glassware, or only for wine glasses?
The Riedel poleerdoek is specially designed for fine glassware and works excellently on wine glasses. Thanks to the soft microfibers the cloth is also safe for other delicate glassware — the fibers won’t scratch and won’t leave lint. The size of 60 x 50 cm gives you enough room to comfortably polish larger glasses as well.
Does the cloth leave lint on my glasses?
No. That’s exactly what Riedel developed this cloth for. The microfiber structure is so fine that it doesn’t leave fibers or lint on your glassware. You’re left with shiny, lint-free glasses after polishing.
What size is the polishing cloth and is that big enough for tall wine glasses?
The cloth measures 60 x 50 cm. That is plenty large to get a good grip on tall, slim wine glasses — such as Bordeaux or Burgundy glasses — and polish them in one motion. With that size you can wrap a glass fully without having to reposition it.
