How do I best care for the Rocca pepper and salt mills?

A pepper or salt mill needs little maintenance, but with some care you can keep it in top condition. A few practical tips: • Never overfill the mills – this prevents clogging and keeps the grinding smooth. • Keep them dry – salt attracts moisture and can damage the grinder. Don’t place the mills directly next to the hob or above a steaming pan. • Clean the exterior with a dry or slightly damp cloth. This keeps the glossy surface looking nice and scratch-free. • Do not immerse in water – the Rocca is made of wood and RVS, combinations that don’t tolerate prolonged moisture. The ceramic grinding mechanism is wear-resistant and normally requires no additional maintenance.

Can I put the Rocca mills in the dishwasher?

No, the Rocca pepper and salt mills are not suitable for the dishwasher. The set is made from a combination of wood, stainless steel (RVS) and ceramic. Wood can shrink, swell or discolour with intense heat and prolonged contact with water in the dishwasher. Always clean the mills with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

Can I adjust the grind size of the Rocca mills?

Yes. Almost all mills with a ceramic grinder — including the Rocca — have an adjustable grind size. You adjust the coarseness via the screw or nut at the top or bottom of the mill. Loosening it produces a coarser grind for pepper or salt; tightening it produces a finer grind. The Rocca’s ceramic grinder ensures a consistent, even grind.

What exactly is in the set and which mill is for pepper and which for salt?

The set contains two mills: one in glossy black and one in glossy white. There is no fixed rule about which colour is for pepper or salt — that’s up to you. Many people choose the black mill for pepper and the white for salt, but you can assign them however you like. Both mills are identical in size (21.5 cm high, 5.5 cm diameter) and are fitted with the same ceramic grinder.

How heavy are the mills and are they comfortable to hold?

Each mill weighs approximately 0.22 kg — light enough to operate effortlessly with one hand, yet heavy enough to feel sturdy and solid.
