About Bialetti

Since 90 years describes Bialetti our history and traditions through scents, colors and flavors. The success story begins in 1919, when Alfonso Bialetti opened his office in the province of Verbania to produce semi-finished aluminum products.

Alfonso's first invention Bialetti was the model Moka Express, a percolator. Thanks to the ambition of Alfonso's son Renota, he was able to immediately establish himself as one of the leading Italian manufacturers of coffee machines.

About Bialetti

FAQ

Does the Bialetti Moka Express 18 Kops also work on induction?

No, the Moka Express 18 Kops is not suitable for induction. You can use it on gas, electric, halogen and ceramic heat sources — so it works on almost any other cooktop.

Which coffee grind should I use in the Bialetti Moka Express?

Use a medium‑coarse grind for the best results. Loosely fill the filter basket with the ground coffee and do not tamp it down. That way the water flows evenly through the coffee bed.

Which heat setting should I use on the Bialetti Moka Express for the best coffee?

Keep the heat low to medium‑high — no high flames. On a low, steady heat you preserve the aromas and avoid a bitter aftertaste. The percolator needs time to gently push the water up through the coffee bed.

Does the Bialetti Moka Express really make espresso?

The Moka Express does not make espresso in the strict technical sense — that requires higher pressure than a stovetop percolator can produce. What you do get is a full, rich coffee with an intense flavour, similar to that from an Italian espresso bar. The pressure difference created by heat forces hot water up through the coffee bed into the upper chamber.

How long does it take for the coffee to be ready?

Allow about two minutes after you put the Moka Express on the heat. A gentle bubbling and gurgling indicates the coffee is flowing up to the upper chamber. At that point remove the percolator from the heat.
