Thanksgiving turkey with maple syrup

Have you ever celebrated Thanksgiving? I haven't, but it's becoming increasingly popular in our little country.

What is Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is a national holiday in America when families celebrate a traditional English harvest festival together. For many people it now means a long weekend full of fun activities, including American football on TV, parades, delicious food and the start of the Christmas season. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. The Friday after Thanksgiving is known as 'Black Friday'. Most people have the day off and go shopping for Christmas presents.

Food is central to Thanksgiving, especially the turkey. Traditional side dishes include sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans and cranberries. For dessert, people often have pecan pie or pumpkin pie.

    1. Preheat the oven to 150 C.

    2. Pat the turkey dry with a tea towel.

    3. Make sure the butter is semi-soft and mix it with salt and freshly ground pepper. Spread the butter both on the outside and under the skin of the turkey.

    4. Next brush the maple syrup over the turkey and put the turkey in the oven for 70 to 100 minutes. When the turkey reaches 71 C internally, it's done and ready to eat!

    Enjoy your meal!

Check the turkey's doneness with a meat thermometer. When the internal temperature reaches 71 degrees Celsius, the turkey is perfectly cooked and ready to serve.

After roasting, let the turkey rest under aluminum foil for a few minutes. This keeps the juices in the meat and makes it much easier to carve.
