What to consider when buying tableware, cutlery, and kitchen utensils for your company canteen?

Plates and cutlery

  • Avoid razor-sharp knives to prevent accidents at work
  • Choose well-stackable lunch/ breakfast plates that are dishwasher safe. Opt for a standard plate size of 20 cm or smaller to save space.
  • Order timeless stainless steel cutlery to match the number of plates.
  • Also, ensure you have teaspoons and basic kitchen utensils like a corkscrew, bottle opener, serving spoons, can opener, kitchen scissors, pizza cutter, and cheese slicer.
  • Is hot food often eaten at work, for example, by an evening shift? Then deep dinner plates are also handy, but also consider the amount of cupboard space your company canteen has.
  • Don't buy much more than your dishwasher can handle
  • Do you like using placemats? Then choose leather placemats, which are easy to clean.

Cups and mugs

  • Is coffee and tea mainly consumed? Then mugs are sufficient. They hold much more, so people don't have to keep walking to the coffee machine.
  • If you have an espresso culture at work, also provide espresso cups or coffee mugs that fit under your coffee machine in height.
  • Ensure you have spacious water glasses, also handy for guests visiting your company. Choose wide, sturdy water glasses, as they are less likely to break and are stackable.
Tip: Place some espresso or cappuccino cups in the boardroom for special visits. You can also set out champagne glasses, soft drink glasses, and/or beer glasses for a special deal.

Company parties

Sturdy wine glasses, possibly champagne glasses for the New Year's toast, beer glasses, or long drink glasses make your company party a success.

Optionally, cake plates, a cake server, and cake forks if there is often something to celebrate. And handy bowls/trays for chips and nuts. Optionally, some wooden serving boards for cheese, sausage, etc., give your company drinks a little extra. A few large trays and a few cutting boards are also handy.

Also, check if all this is really necessary and if there is space in your canteen. No space? Then opt for paper plates, wooden cutlery sets, and disposable cups for all parties.

A summer BBQ at work? Always a good idea! Check out our bbq accessories and rent the barbecues for the rest, very convenient.

Equipment

Be careful with plug-in devices like egg cookers, sandwich makers, waffle irons, and the like. People forget to turn these off, with dangerous consequences. Choose safe devices that turn off automatically after a certain time. Also, make agreements or hang notes: after use, unplug the device, for example.

TIP: Keep it simple. Prefer a few fruit bowls and ensure fruit is available at work instead of all devices for unhealthy snacks.

Does your company have a microwave? Then a few bowls for the microwave are handy.

Do you have a stove or hot plate at work? Limit it to a frying pan and wok pan. With few available pans, you force people to clean them immediately.

Refrigerator

Let people bring their own food containers from home. Don't facilitate this, as before you know it, the fridge is full of leftovers. Make agreements about the fridge, such as mandatory labeling of your food or dividing shelves. Provide ice cube makers if you have a freezer compartment. This is nice in the summer months and not unhealthy for your staff.
