Sweet potato fries

You can't imagine Dutch culture without a nice portion of fries with mayo. That paper cone full of salty, crispy fries with a generous dollop of sauce. Unfortunately that's not always the healthiest choice, but that doesn't mean you have to miss out on fries entirely. Sweet potato fries are a delicious alternative! They're packed with complex carbohydrates that keep you feeling full, the low glycemic index helps keep blood sugar stable, and sweet potatoes are also full of vitamin C and vitamin B6.

Preparation time

Preparation time 10 min
Time in oven 40 min
Total 50 minutes

Equipment

  • French fry cutter or paring knife
  • Baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Deep plates

Ingredients

  • 4 sweet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons fresh thyme

How to make sweet potato fries?

    1. Preheat the oven to 175°C.
    2. Wash the sweet potatoes and cut them into fries. You can leave the skin on or peel them, but I like the little bit of skin left on.
    3. Mix the olive oil with the oregano, thyme and sea salt. Toss the fries in the mixture. I always make sure they're well coated in the oil and herb mix so they get nice and crispy.
    4. Spread the fries over a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20 minutes. Then turn the fries and bake for another 20 minutes. After that they're ready to eat! Delicious with homemade mayo (made from egg yolk, white wine vinegar, sunflower oil, mustard and salt).

And a tasty fry? Serve it with a salad for a healthy and flavorful meal. Enjoy on behalf of team Cookinglife, your go-to for recipes and kitchen essentials
