Brown spots on your cutlery?

Are you suffering from rust on your stainless steel cutlery? How can this be? We explain this in this blog.

When you place your stainless cutlery in the dishwasher with items that can rust, there is a possibility that the rust will fly over. Especially when you leave it in the dishwasher for an extended period of time after the wash cycle, the dishwasher stays closed, wet and hot for a long time. This makes it easier for rust to adhere to your cutlery. This phenomenon is called fly rust.

How do you remove fly rust?

Does your cutlery suffer from fly rust? Then we have some tips for you to remove it as quickly as possible. Soak your cutlery in a mixture of water and vinegar. Then clean it with a dishwashing brush. Or soak your cutlery in a mix of water and baking soda. Place a wad of aluminum foil in this and then clean the cutlery with a dishwashing brush. The fly rust will disappear with this.

Tips to prevent fly rust

Of course, prevention is better than cure. This can be done, for example, by washing the cutlery by hand. Use a dish brush and mild detergent. If you still prefer to put your cutlery in the dishwasher, it is important to consider the following things:

Do not leave any food residue on the cutlery before putting it in the dishwasher.
After the wash cycle, remove the cutlery from the dishwasher as soon as possible. Rub it dry and check for remaining food residue.
Put the same type of cutlery together in the cutlery tray, so forks with forks and knives with knives. Knives are more likely to pick up rust due to their harder steel alloy.
Do not place cutlery with wooden or plastic handles in the dishwasher together with the rest of the cutlery.
