Winter cocktail

With this cold, crisp weather I think it’s time for a lovely winter cocktail. We spend a lot of time at home these days and I like to make an occasion of it. On Sunday afternoons I often put a delicious snack board on the table. I usually pick a beer or a glass of wine, but this time I made a tasty cocktail. This winter cocktail with Cabernet Sauvignon and rosemary honey syrup was a big hit!

Equipment

  • Red wine glass or cocktail glass
  • Saucepan

Ingredients

  • 3 sprigs of rosemary
  • 240 ml honey
  • 120 ml water
  • 83 ml Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 38 ml rosemary syrup
  • 15 ml cherry juice
  • 1 lemon wedge
  • powdered sugar for garnish

How to make the winter cocktail?

    Rosemary honey syrup

Warm the water in a small saucepan; just before it boils add the sprigs of rosemary. Let them steep with the lid closed for 5 to 7 minutes.

Then remove the rosemary and stir in the honey until it’s dissolved and a syrupy consistency has formed.

Take the syrup off the heat and let it cool to room temperature.

Your rosemary honey syrup is ready; once it has reached room temperature it’s best to store the syrup in the refrigerator.

    Winter cocktail

For this cocktail it’s best to use a red wine glass, with or without a stem, for the best flavor and, of course, a nice presentation.

Add the Cabernet Sauvignon, rosemary honey syrup, cherry juice and lemon juice to the glass, stir briefly and finish your cocktail with a sprinkle of powdered sugar for garnish. Cheers! Don’t forget to put together a delicious snack board to go with it.

    Cheers! From team Cookinglife

Making the Winter cocktail

You often make a lovely winter cocktail using only part of a bottle of wine. It’s a shame to have to throw that wine away because the bottle has been open too long. The solution is: the Coravin wine system! With this system you insert a thin hollow needle through the cork of an unopened bottle. After you’ve used the wine for the cocktail, you remove the needle from the cork. This way your bottle of wine stays tasting like new! The needle injects noble argon gas into the bottle and that prevents oxygen from reaching the wine, preserving its flavor. Super handy, and nowadays there are all kinds of trendy variants!

Winter cocktail recipe

This winter cocktail recipe is really super easy to prepare. In advance you only need to make the rosemary syrup. Once that’s ready, you can combine everything. Want a slightly fresher cocktail? You can also add ice cubes to the drink. All ingredients can be at room temperature, which also saves space in your fridge! And this delicious winter cocktail can also be made alcohol-free.
