How do you make a juicy burger?

This is my ultimate Juicy Burger – a true classic for the best BBQ nights, where I, Henrico, BBQ expert at Cookinglife, help you make it with lots of meat and robust flavours the way I like. With fresh ingredients and simple steps you get a juicy bite full of punch, ideal for a hearty meal or a cosy BBQ with friends. For me it's all about that manly pleasure, where every bite becomes an unforgettable adventure.

    • 500 g minced beef (with about 20% fat for extra juiciness, because we don't want it dry)
    • 1 onion, finely chopped (about 100 g)
    • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
    • 1 egg (binds everything together and adds moisture)
    • 50 g breadcrumbs (for firmness, but skip it if you want it lighter)
    • 1 teaspoon salt (or less for a low-salt variant)
    • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 4 burger buns (about 100 g each)
    • 2 tomatoes, sliced (about 200 g)
    • 100 g lettuce such as iceberg
    • 100 g cheese such as cheddar (for that melty top)
    1. Prepare everything: Finely chop the onion and press the garlic so you can get started without hassle.
    2. Mix the minced beef: Put the minced beef into a large bowl with the onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper. Knead it with your hands into an even mixture, but not too long or you'll lose that juiciness.
    3. Shape the burgers: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and press them into round patties about 1.5 cm thick. Make a slight indentation in the centre to prevent them from bowing on the grill.
    4. Cook or grill them: Heat your grill pan or BBQ over medium-high heat (about 180°C) and add a tablespoon of oil. Cook the burgers 4–5 minutes per side until the core reaches 70°C, so they stay nicely juicy and cooked through.
    5. Toast the buns: Meanwhile toast the buns on the grill or in the oven at 180°C for 1–2 minutes, until they're crispy.
    6. Assemble: Place a burger on each bun, add tomato, lettuce and cheese, and finish with the top bun. Serve immediately for ultimate freshness.

For a low-salt version, use half a teaspoon of salt and add spices like paprika to keep the flavour robust – it fits perfectly with that rugged lifestyle I promote at Cookinglife. Want it gluten-free? Then use gluten-free breadcrumbs and buns so everyone can join in. For a unique twist try sugar-free toppings like avocado or grilled vegetables instead of cheese, for a fresher variation that still has that manly bite!

Enjoy this Juicy Burger and make your BBQ nights unforgettable!
