Campari Americano Spritz

Inspired by the flavours of Milan and Turin, this cocktail was born around 1860 at the Caffé Campari under the name Milano-Torino — a nod to Campari from Milan and sweet vermouth from Turin. By the end of the 19th century, as American tourists embraced the drink, the name was changed — well before the era of American Prohibition.

Campari Americano

Fill a glass: Grab a large wine glass and fill it with ice cubes.

Add the Campari: Measure out 150 ml of Campari and pour it over the ice, letting that vivid colour and enticing aroma steal the show.

Add the vermouth: Gently pour in 150 ml of sweet vermouth. Take it slow — you don't want to lose those fantastic bubbles!

Top up with soda water: Add soda water, then stir gently with a spoon to bring everything together without killing the bubbles.

Garnish: Perch an orange slice on the rim of the glass, and if you're feeling a little bold, throw in a few fresh basil leaves for that aromatic twist.

Serve: Take a generous sip of that citrus magic, then settle in and enjoy your refreshing Campari Spritz. Oh, and take it easy — it's all about savouring those incredible flavours!

  • Want a lower-sugar option? Go for a dry prosecco and dial back the Campari to keep the sweetness in check.
  • For a gluten-free version** simply check that your prosecco is gluten-free. Easy done!
  • Fancy an alcohol-free twist? ** Replace the Campari with a bitter herbal drink or a splash of non-alcoholic aperitif — you'll still get that signature kick.

The Campari Americano Spritz is a classic Italian cocktail that's perfect for a summer evening. With the bitter edge of Campari, the sweetness of vermouth, and the fresh fizz of soda water, this is a drink you'll want to make again and again. Cheers!
