Messermeister Knife Block with Knives Avanta Pakkawood 10-piece
Everything you need in one place, neatly within reach
A complete set for your kitchen and table, including steak knives
Sturdy and beautifully balanced: you'll use these knives every day for years
Not dishwasher-safe - wash the knives by hand and dry them immediately
You know the feeling: a drawer full of loose knives that you fish out one by one, never knowing which one is sharp and which one is long overdue for retirement. Or worse - a bunch of cheap knives that look nice but start tearing through a tomato after just two weeks. That is exactly why you buy this block. The Messermeister Knife Block with Knives Avanta Pakkawood 10-piece gives you a complete, professional knife set in one go - forged German steel, a handle of warm brown pakkawood, and everything neatly within reach in a wooden block on your worktop. No more hassle. Just cooking.
Everything you need - from chopping board to table
This is not a set that leaves you missing something after you buy it. The Messermeister Avanta set covers the full range of your kitchen - from rough cutting work to serving at the table. That is rare. And smart.
- Chef's Knife 20 cm - your workhorse in the kitchen. From dicing an onion to halving a whole chicken: this knife does it all with ease.
- Carving Knife with Hollow Edge 20 cm - the hollows in the blade keep meat from sticking while you slice. Thin slices, neat presentation.
- Carving Fork 18 cm - holds roasts firmly in place while you carve. No more Sunday roasts sliding around.
- Utility Knife 15 cm - the flexible all-rounder for vegetables, cheese, sandwich toppings and everything that is too big for a paring knife but too small for a chef's knife.
- Paring Knife 9 cm - compact, agile and always sharp: perfect for precise work such as peeling, trimming and garnishing.
- 4 Steak Knives 13 cm - not just for steak. Every cut of meat, every crust, every guest at the table benefits from them. Serving becomes a moment.
- Wooden knife block - keeps everything neatly in place, protects the edges and looks great on your worktop at the same time.
German steel that proves itself
The knives in the Avanta series are forged from German X50CrMoV15 steel - the same type of steel you find in knives from renowned brands all over the world. This is not a marketing term: it means the steel is corrosion-resistant, stays easy to sharpen and holds its edge longer than cheaper alternatives. The hardness is 57 HRC - firm enough to stay sharp, yet easy to resharpen when the time comes.
The edge is sharpened at 15 degrees. That is sharper than the standard European 20 degrees you see on many knives. You can literally taste the difference: a cleaner cut, less resistance, neater pieces. Whether you are finely chopping herbs, filleting salmon or slicing a ripe tomato without squashing it - those 15 degrees make the difference between cutting and tearing.
The finish is satin: professional in appearance, but without the overly glossy surface that shows every fingerprint. Practical and stylish at the same time.
Full tang, bolster and pakkawood - balance you can feel
A knife is more than its blade. The way it sits in your hand determines how long you can work with it comfortably. Messermeister understands that. The Avanta knives have a full tang: the steel runs from the tip all the way to the end of the handle. This puts the weight in the right place and gives a balance you feel the moment you pick up the knife.
The bolster - the thickened part between blade and handle - gives your finger a natural resting point and prevents your hand from slipping towards the blade. Three rivets hold the handles firmly in place. These are details you miss on cheaper knives, and you only notice how valuable they are once you are used to them.
The handle itself is made of brown pakkawood - a resin-impregnated wood that is water-repellent and extremely durable. It feels warm, sits comfortably in the hand and looks good year after year. Not just a handle: a material with character.
And the guarantee? Messermeister stands behind its knives with the Knife for Life guarantee: a lifetime guarantee against material and manufacturing defects. That is the kind of confidence a brand can only have when it knows what it makes.
The Avanta series: born for the cooking school
The Avanta series is not well balanced by accident. Messermeister originally developed this line for a leading cooking school in North America. Knives that end up in the hands of students and chefs every day have to perform - time after time, without compromise. You notice that foundation in every detail of this set: the grip, the weight, the balance, the sharpness. You get a professional starting point, without a steep learning curve.
💡 Cookinglife Tip: When chopping, keep the tip of the chef's knife resting on the chopping board and move only the rear part of the knife up and down in a rocking motion. This way you work quickly, tire your hand less and keep the edge sharp for longer. And always use a wooden or plastic chopping board - never glass or ceramic, which dulls any knife in record time.
Care: short but crucial
Good knives deserve good care. That sounds like a lot of work, but it is very little once you get the hang of it.
- Always wash by hand - warm water and a mild washing-up liquid, then dry immediately. Not in the dishwasher: the combination of heat, steam and aggressive detergents damages both the edge and the pakkawood handle.
- Rinse immediately after acidic or salty foods - tomato, citrus, vinegar and salt are no friends of steel. Even stainless steel does better if you do not expose it for longer than necessary.
- Chopping board of wood or plastic - your knives will thank you for years.
- Sharpen regularly - a honing steel for daily maintenance, a whetstone for deeper restoration. Sharper knives faster, sharp knives for longer.
- Give the handles a drop of food-safe oil now and then - pakkawood is naturally durable, and a little pampering keeps it in top condition.
