Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Citrus juicer
  • Sieve
  • Measuring cup
  • Beer glasses
  • Spoon
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board

Ingredients

  • 4 bottles or cans of lager beer (330 ml each), well chilled
  • 2 oranges (for juice and garnish)
  • 100 g granulated sugar
  • 100 ml water
  • 4 cinnamon sticks (2 for the syrup, 2 for garnish)
  • 1 tsp honey (optional, for extra sweetness)

How do you make a Christmas beer cocktail with cinnamon and orange?

    1. Make the cinnamon syrup: put 100 ml water, 100 g sugar and 2 cinnamon sticks in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Let simmer gently for 5 minutes, then turn off the heat. Let the syrup cool to room temperature and remove the cinnamon sticks.
    2. Juice the oranges and strain the juice so there's no pulp. You need about 100 ml of juice for 4 glasses.
    3. For each glass, combine 1 tablespoon of cinnamon syrup and 25 ml of orange juice in the beer glass. Stir briefly.
    4. Add a generous pour of cold beer (about 150 ml per glass) and pour slowly so a nice head forms. Top up to taste.
    5. Garnish each glass with a thin slice of orange and a small cinnamon stick. Serve immediately, as this tastes best cold and fresh.

Good beer glasses really make a difference when serving this cocktail. A clear glass shows off the drink's beautiful color, and that adds to the festive moment. Choose glasses that feel comfortable in the hand and sturdy enough for years of use. Quality doesn't have to be complicated.
