Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • 3 shallow bowls
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Paper towels
  • Brush or oil spray
  • Small bowl for the dip

Ingredients

  • 500 g chicken breast
  • 60 g flour
  • 1 tsp paprika powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 100 g panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)
  • Sunflower oil (spray or brush)
  • For the dip:
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp wholegrain mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

How to make crispy air fryer chicken strips with honey-mustard dip?

    1. Cut the chicken breasts into even strips about 2 cm wide. Pat them dry with paper towels.
    2. Prepare three shallow bowls: one with flour (seasoned with salt, pepper and paprika), one with beaten egg and one with panko.
    3. Coat each chicken strip in turn in the flour, the egg and the panko. Press the panko on firmly so it sticks.
    4. Preheat the air fryer to 200 degrees Celsius for 3 minutes.
    5. Place the chicken strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Lightly spray or brush them with a little sunflower oil.
    6. Cook the strips for 10 to 12 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. Turn them halfway so they become golden-brown and crispy all over.
    7. Meanwhile make the dip: mix the honey, mustard, mayonnaise and a splash of lemon juice together. Taste and season as needed.
    8. Serve the chicken strips straight from the air fryer with the honey-mustard dip on the side. Optionally serve with a fresh salad or some homemade air-fryer fries.

The air fryer is a real asset if you like crispy food but want to use less fat. These chicken strips prove that cooking healthier doesn't mean you have to compromise on flavour. Vary the spices to suit your taste: add some cayenne pepper for heat, or smoked paprika for a deeper flavour.

Tip: don't cook too many strips at once. A single layer in the basket gives the best result because the hot air needs to circulate properly. Serving a larger group? Cook in two batches and keep the first batch warm in the oven at 80 degrees Celsius. That way everyone enjoys the same crispy result.
