Erik Magnussen was born in 1940 in Copenhagen and trained as a ceramist at the School of Applied Arts and Design. He graduated with a silver medal in 1960 and went on to work with porcelain manufacturer Bing & Grøndahl where he created everyday porcelain in simple geometric forms. Magnussen also designed functional furniture, for example, but is probably best known for the EM77 thermos, which he designed for Stelton. A stylish design classic that put Danish design on the world map.
